Majority of Hindu Population even to date follow our own indigenous customs and practises with regard to all our events and aspects of life from birth to death. Few years back, Indian Government making use of the Uniform Civil Code provision in Indian Constitution under Directive principles of State Policy initiated steps for the same through Law Commission.
We already have through Hindu Code Bills and few sections of Indian Penal Code Uniform laws on Hindu. These were imposed on Hindus without their consent. The primary objective of all these laws were to alter the ways of life of Indigenous peoples.
They contradict with the ways of life of Hindu Indigenous peoples in many ways. When these laws were enacted under the Hindu banner, Hindus opposed them vehemently. With such a background, a Uniform Civil Code for all the citizens of the country would permanently ruin Hindus only more than any one else.
Many among Hindus who are politically active too follow their Inherent indigenous practises for their personal life. Still to the outside world they project themselves to be a staunch supporter of Uniform Civil Code. They don’t work towards taking steps to convince the Government in recognising their Indigenous ways of life.
When asked if it is acceptable for them to let their indigenous ways of life die as a result of Uniform Civil Code, majority among them maintain a grave silence. By remaining silent and letting these laws that conflict with their indigenous practises, to convert their next generation, the level of their commitment to their tradition also stands exposed.
When asked several reasons come out as to why a Uniform Civil Code should code should be enacted.
